The Manipur Police have issued a clarification denying social media reports that claimed security forces opened fire on farmers in the Chanung area.

According to the statement, both Yaingangpokpi Police Station and Sagolmang Police Station have confirmed that no such incident has been reported by any security agency, including 4 Mahar, which is currently deployed in and around the area.

The police informed that further inquiries are underway to verify the facts, but as of now, there is no confirmation of any firing incident.

The public has been urged not to believe or circulate unverified information that could cause unnecessary panic and tension.

“Spreading rumours without verification can have serious implications on law and order,” a police official said.

Authorities have assured that they are closely monitoring the situation and will take necessary action if any credible information emerges.
