Manipur High Court Allows Additional Witness in Election Petition Against MLA Karam Shyam
The High Court of Manipur, led by Chief Justice Kempaiah Somashekar, has permitted the summoning of an additional witness in connection with the ongoing Election Petition No. 7 of 2022 filed by Okram Joy Singh against MLA Karam Shyam and another respondent.
During Tuesday’s hearing, counsel for respondent No. 1, advocate A. Mohendro, sought permission to summon Seema Shukla, Public Information Officer at the Uttar Pradesh Institute of Textile Technology, to provide testimony and submit relevant documents before the Commissioner. Although the witness was not included in the original list submitted on January 25, 2025, the applicant argued that her evidence is crucial for resolving the case.
Counsel for the election petitioner, advocate B.R. Sharma, was also present during the proceedings. After hearing both sides, the court ruled that the application was valid and allowed the summoning in the interest of justice.
Consequently, Miscellaneous Case (Election Petition) No. 19 of 2025 was disposed of. The court further directed the registry to list the remaining proceedings in Election Petition No. 7 of 2022, Election Recrimination Petition No. 5 of 2022, and MC (EL. PET.) No. 9 of 2025 on September 26, 2025.
