Kuki-Zo Council Agrees to Open National Highway-02 for Free Movement of Commuters and Goods

In a significant breakthrough, the Kuki-Zo Council (KZC) has decided to open National Highway-02 (NH-02) to ensure the free movement of commuters and essential goods. The decision comes after a series of meetings between officials of the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) and a delegation of KZC over the past few days in New Delhi.

KZC has also committed to cooperate with the security forces deployed by the Government of India to maintain peace and normalcy along the highway.

A tripartite meeting was held in New Delhi involving representatives of the MHA, the Government of Manipur, and the Kuki National Organisation (KNO) along with the United People’s Front (UPF). The meeting concluded with the signing of a tripartite Suspension of Operations (SoO) Agreement.

The SoO Agreement, signed on re-negotiated terms and conditions (ground rules), will come into effect from the date of signing and remain valid for one year.

This move is expected to bring relief to thousands of people dependent on NH-02, which serves as a crucial lifeline for transportation and supply of essential commodities in the region.
