CoTU Imposes Economic Blockade Over Government’s Inaction on Security Concerns
The Committee on Tribal Unity (CoTU) has announced an economic blockade from midnight of October 7 to midnight of October 9, 2025, citing the government’s failure to address security concerns following the abduction of Mr. Kamginlen Chongloi at Makhan Village near Indira Gandhi National Tribal University on October 2.
In a statement issued by the Information and Publicity Secretary of CoTU, the organisation expressed regret that the 48-hour ultimatum served to the government on October 4 expired without any resolution. CoTU alleged that the Ministry of Home Affairs has shown reluctance in addressing security preparedness at the buffer zones between the two geographical divides — a move they say undermines the fears and insecurities of the Kuki-Zo community in the region.
The blockade is being imposed “until demands for enhanced security at the buffer zones are addressed and the safety of commuters travelling between Kangpokpi and Churachandpur via Makhan and Leikhampokpi villages is ensured,” CoTU said in the notice.
