BJP MLAs Return from Delhi, Voice Confidence in Early Revival of Popular Government in Manipur

Optimism is growing within the BJP ranks as several legislators returned to Imphal on Saturday after a series of meetings in New Delhi with the party’s central leadership, expressing confidence that a popular government would soon be reinstated in Manipur.

The state has been under President’s Rule since earlier this year, but recent developments have given party members renewed hope. Around 25 BJP MLAs had been camping in the national capital over the past several days, holding multiple rounds of discussions with senior party officials to push for political restoration in the state.

On October 10, a six-member delegation led by Manipur Legislative Assembly Speaker Th. Satyabrata Singh, former Chief Minister N. Biren Singh, and senior leaders Thongam Biswajit, Yumkham Khemchand, Govindas Konthoujam, and Kh. Ibomcha met BJP general secretary B.L. Santosh at his residence. They apprised him of Manipur’s political and security situation and urged the Centre to expedite the process of forming an inclusive popular government.

Earlier, on October 8, BJP North East Coordinator and Manipur in-charge Sambit Patra held a meeting with the MLAs at Manipur Bhavan, New Delhi. According to sources, Patra assured them that the Centre was committed to reinstating a popular government and that the ongoing term of President’s Rule was unlikely to be extended.

MLAs Karam Shyam, Sapam Ranjan Singh, Heikham Dingo, Konthoujam Govindas, and Khumukcham Joykishan were among those who returned to Imphal on Saturday afternoon. Speaking to reporters at Imphal International Airport, the legislators said their meetings in Delhi had been “encouraging” and that the central leadership showed genuine intent to restore democratic governance in Manipur.

Karam Shyam described the recent discussions as more “serious and solution-oriented” compared to earlier meetings. BJP North East in-charge Sambit Patra and general secretary B.L. Santosh made it clear that the issue is being handled as a priority. This time, we could sense real commitment from the top leaders. We are hopeful that good news will come soon,” he said.

Echoing similar sentiments, MLA Sapam Ranjan Singh said the delegation’s mission was to brief the central leadership on the ground realities in Manipur and stress the need for an early political settlement. “We emphasized that the restoration of a popular government is vital for stability and public confidence. The Centre’s response has been positive,” he added.

With more legislators expected to return to Imphal in the coming days, the overall mood within the BJP appears upbeat—signalling renewed anticipation that Manipur may soon see the return of an elected government after months of political uncertainty.
