DISTRICT TOBACCO CONTROL CELL LAUNCHES “TOBACCO-FREE YOUTH CAMPAIGN 3.0” IN IMPHAL WEST

In a press release issued by the Directorate of Information and Public Relations, the District Tobacco Control Cell under the National Tobacco Control Programme (NTCP) launched the “Tobacco-Free Youth Campaign 3.0” at the Conference Hall of the Deputy Commissioner’s Office, Imphal West.

Deputy Commissioner Imphal West, Shri Mayanglambam Rajkumar Singh, formally inaugurated the campaign in the presence of the Chief Medical Officer Imphal West and other district-level officers.

District Nodal Officer of the Tobacco Control Cell, Shri A. Dinesh Sharma, spoke on the harmful effects of tobacco and highlighted key strategies of the campaign, including enhancing public awareness, strengthening Tobacco-Free Educational Institutions (ToFEI), declaring tobacco-free villages, enforcing COTPA 2003 and PECA 2019, boosting social media outreach, and capacity building for tobacco control initiatives.

As part of the IEC activities, a rally was flagged off by the Deputy Commissioner from the DC Office to Ram Krishna Mission School, Uripok. Participants chanted slogans such as “Tobacco Free Starts With Me,” “Say It Loud, Tobacco’s Out,” “Quit Tobacco Today, Live Young Tomorrow,” and “Tobacco Causes Cancer.”

ASHA workers, NCC Air Squadron cadets, My Bharat volunteers, DPMU and BPMU teams, and health staff actively took part. The event concluded with an awareness programme at the Ram Krishna Mission Auditorium.
