TYCM, TKLI Condemn Report Seeking Suspension of IGP Themthing Ngashangva
In a press note issued by the Tribal Youth Council Manipur (TYCM), Council Headquarters, and the Tangkhul Katamnao Long Imphal (TKLI), the two tribal bodies strongly condemned the report submitted to the Governor of Manipur seeking the suspension of IGP Themthing Ngashangva.
The report, filed on November 20, 2025 by the office of a Rajya Sabha MP from Manipur, was denounced by both organisations as “unfortunate,” “one-sided,” and “highly irresponsible.”
TYCM Terms Allegations an Attempt to Tarnish IGP’s Image
The TYCM, in its statement, expressed deep disappointment over the allegations made through the MP’s PA/PS against the senior IPS officer. It stated that urging the Governor to suspend IGP Themthing Ngashangva was unwarranted and appeared to be an attempt to tarnish his reputation.
Raising concern over individuals circulating “unpleasant and derogatory remarks” about the officer on social media, the council warned that such actions, if continued beyond constitutional limits, would invite a “firm and appropriate response.”
TKLI Calls Complaint One-Sided and Unverified
In a separate press release, the TKLI also rejected the report, calling it “one-sided, unverified, and incomplete.” The organisation said the complaint unfairly targeted a senior officer who was performing his lawful duties during a tense and volatile situation involving aggressive protesters.
The TKLI criticised the MP’s office for allegedly distorting the incident, warning that such accusations could demoralise the police force and undermine the dignity of an elected representative.
The group further pointed to a rise in “communal and racially charged content” related to the issue on social media and cautioned that such posts could heighten tensions during an already sensitive period. It warned that failure to curb such content would result in immediate legal action against individuals and group administrators responsible for circulating divisive material.
Both organisations reaffirmed their support for IGP Themthing Ngashangva and urged the public to refrain from defamatory statements or communal narratives that could destabilise the situation further.
