Manipur Police Arrest Four for Poppy Cultivation in Ukhrul District

Ukhrul, December 7: In a significant operation conducted on the night of December 6-7, 2024, the Manipur Police arrested four individuals involved in poppy cultivation in the Khamason range of Ukhrul District. Approximately 30 acres of poppy plantations were discovered during the operation.

The arrested individuals were identified as Peimi Ramsak (27), Lightson Shimrah (49), Kapangkhui Khashim, and Yatei SV (22). The police recovered one air gun and two knives from their possession.

Poppy Destruction Drive Conducted by Joint Team in Mao Pungdong

On December 7, 2024, a joint operation involving the Manipur Police, the Forest Department, and the Executive Magistrate resulted in the destruction of one acre of poppy plantation at Mao Pungdong under Mao-PS. Following the operation, the authorities initiated further actions against the village chairman of the area.

The operation is part of ongoing efforts by the state authorities to combat illegal poppy cultivation and related activities.
