705 Arms Surrendered Across Manipur, Deadline Extended Till March 6
Imphal, March 1: In a significant development, 705 arms have been surrendered across Manipur following the state government’s ultimatum. The deadline for surrendering arms has now been extended until March 6, 2025, as announced by the Superintendent of Police, Churachandpur.
On the final day of the initial deadline, 307 arms were surrendered. Among them, the Arambai Tenggol group alone surrendered 246 weapons at the First Manipur Rifle Campus in Imphal. Additionally, 61 arms were deposited at various locations across both hill and valley districts.
The extension of the deadline is seen as an effort to encourage more individuals and groups to comply with the government’s call for disarmament, aimed at restoring peace and stability in the state. Security officials continue to urge all those in possession of illegal arms to surrender before the new deadline.
