JAC Warns of Intense Protests if Mukesh Remains Untraced by March 23

Imphal, March 22: The Joint Action Committee (JAC) Against the Missing of Luwangthem Mukesh has issued a strong warning of intensified agitations if the missing youth is not found by March 23. At a press meet held today at Yaipha Thouni Community Hall, Keishampat Leimajam Leikai, JAC convenor Samurailatpam Subadeva Sharma lashed out at the authorities for their alleged inaction and apathy.

Mukesh went missing on March 16 near Zoujangtek, prompting the immediate filing of an FIR and the formation of the JAC to mount pressure on the government for swift intervention. Memorandums were submitted to key figures including the Governor of Manipur, Chief Secretary, and Security Advisor, calling for urgent search operations.

Following their meeting with Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla on March 21, the JAC had demanded that Mukesh be traced by March 22. However, the Governor sought an additional day’s time, promising updates by March 23 — a deadline the JAC reluctantly accepted.

“We are not satisfied with the pace of investigation. If Mukesh is not found by tomorrow, we will intensify our agitation and involve civil society organizations, clubs, and various other bodies across the state,” warned Subadeva Sharma. He expressed grave concern over how someone could vanish under the President’s Rule, calling it a failure of governance and a serious breach of public safety.

To escalate the matter to a national platform, the JAC is preparing to meet Rajya Sabha MP Dr. Angomcha Bimol Akoijam, urging him to raise the issue in Parliament. They also plan to seek intervention from the Speaker of the Manipur Legislative Assembly and other MLAs.

The JAC has affirmed that if authorities fail to trace Mukesh within the set timeframe, large-scale protests will erupt across Manipur.
