MLA Rajkumar Imo Singh Calls for Fair and Inclusive Delimitation in Manipur
Imphal, March 24, 2025: Rajkumar Imo Singh, the MLA representing Sagolband Assembly Constituency, has formally urged the Union Home Minister to ensure a fair, transparent, and inclusive delimitation process in Manipur. His appeal follows the recent Supreme Court directive mandating the completion of the delimitation exercise in several states, including Manipur, within three months.
In his detailed representation, Imo Singh underscored several key demands aimed at preserving electoral integrity and protecting the socio-political fabric of the state:
1. Finalize NRC Process: Prioritize the completion of the National Register of Citizens to ensure that only genuine Indian citizens are included in the electoral process.
2. Electoral Roll Review: Conduct a comprehensive review to identify and remove bogus voters and unauthorized entries from the voter lists.
3. Eliminate Fake Aadhaar Cards: Verify and remove fraudulent Aadhaar cards before linking them with Voter IDs to ensure accuracy and credibility.
4. Constitutional Safeguards for Indigenous Valley Residents: Reserve 40 Assembly seats for the indigenous population in Manipur’s valley region to protect against demographic shifts and uphold the socio-cultural identity of the region.
Rajkumar Imo Singh emphasized that delimitation in Manipur must be handled with care, given the state’s diverse ethnic composition and recent unrest.
In a related development, Union Minister Rajkumar Ranjan Singh has proposed carving out a new unreserved Lok Sabha seat by combining eight currently unreserved Assembly constituencies from the Outer Manipur Lok Sabha segment. This proposal seeks to enhance fair representation for underrepresented communities.
As the delimitation deadline approaches, these appeals highlight the urgency of balancing demographic realities with constitutional and cultural protections in Manipur’s evolving political landscape.
