Twin Earthquakes Devastate Myanmar; Strong Tremors Felt Across Northeast India and Bangkok

March 28, 2025 — In a catastrophic natural disaster, Myanmar was struck by two powerful earthquakes on Friday, with magnitudes of 7.7 and 6.4. The epicentre was near Sagaing, a region known for its seismic vulnerability. The tremors were so intense that they were felt over 900 km away in Bangkok, Thailand, as well as parts of Northeast India, including Manipur.

In Myanmar, the earthquakes caused widespread destruction. The historic Ava Bridge in Mandalay collapsed into the Irrawaddy River, and several buildings were reduced to rubble. Casualty figures are still being confirmed, but preliminary reports suggest heavy damage to infrastructure and possible loss of life.

In Bangkok, residents were jolted awake as buildings shook violently. Videos on social media show water splashing out of rooftop pools and panicked residents evacuating high-rise apartments. Several buildings in the city reportedly sustained structural damage.

Meanwhile, strong tremors were also felt across India’s Northeast region, especially in Manipur, Mizoram, Nagaland, and Assam. Residents rushed out of their homes in panic, though no immediate reports of damage or injuries have emerged from the Indian side.
