Manipur to Conduct State-Level Mock Drill with Air Raid Sirens in Imphal
Imphal, May 6: The Manipur government will conduct a state-level mock drill on Wednesday at 4 PM across multiple staging areas in Imphal to simulate an air raid scenario and test emergency response capabilities.
According to an official statement, the drill will involve various departments and agencies including the Police, Civil Defence, Fire Department, State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), Health Department, and Manipur State Power Distribution Company Limited.
The mock exercise will feature air raid warning sirens, public announcements via police systems and patrol vehicles, activation of fire engine sirens, blackout measures, search and rescue operations, casualty evacuation, temporary hospital setups, and the movement of civilians to designated bunkers.
The key locations identified as staging areas include Johnstone School, State Museum, BT Park, and the Fire Service Building.
Officials emphasized that the drill is intended to improve coordination and preparedness of civil defence mechanisms in the event of a hostile air attack. It will also include training for civilians on basic civil defence strategies to safeguard themselves during emergencies.
The government has urged the public to remain calm during the drill and extend full cooperation to ensure its success.
