B.Sc. Nursing Student Found Dead at RIMS Hostel in Imphal

Imphal, May 14, 2025: A tragic incident unfolded at the hostel of the Regional Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS), Imphal, where a 21-year-old B.Sc. Nursing student was found dead early Tuesday morning.

The deceased has been identified as Miss Abiel Sachiana Ch, daughter of Dicky N. Sangma, hailing from Rengram, Asananggre in West Garo Hills, Meghalaya. She was a 4th-semester student of the B.Sc. Nursing program.

According to the Imphal West Police Control Room, the student was discovered hanging inside her hostel room around 8:30 AM. A case of Unnatural Death (UD) has been registered at Lamphel Police Station under UD Case No. 8/LPS/2025, dated May 14, 2025. Police have launched an investigation to determine the circumstances leading to her death.

Sources informed the reporter that hostel wardens are rarely present on the premises. Most of the time, they are neither with the students nor staying at the hostel, raising serious concerns about the lack of supervision.
