Heavy Rainfall Hits Manipur; Khoupum Records Highest at 91.5 mm

Imphal, June 1, 2025: Several parts of Manipur experienced heavy to very heavy rainfall on Saturday, with Khoupm in Noney district recording the highest accumulation at 91.5 mm, according to data released by the India Meteorological Department (IMD), Imphal Centre.

Other severely affected areas include Lamsang (82.5 mm), Sainik School in Imphal East (62.0 mm), and Tamenglong (60.7 mm). These locations fall under the “Very Heavy to Extremely Heavy Rainfall” category as per IMD classifications.

Moderate rainfall was also recorded in Saikul (16.0 mm) and Molnom (24.0 mm) in Kangpokpi district, raising concerns over rising water levels and possible flash flooding.

Rainfall intensity was categorized as follows:

  • Light Rain: < 15 mm/3hr
  • Moderate Rain: 15–45 mm/3hr
  • Heavy Rain: > 45 mm/3hr

Other districts, areas including Mao, Lilong, Moirang, and Yairalpat, reported light rain, while several locations remained dry or saw negligible precipitation.

The IMD has urged local authorities to remain vigilant, especially in low-lying and flood-prone areas, as water levels continue to rise. Rescue operations and flood control measures are ongoing in affected regions.
