Governor Felicitates Gallantry Award Winners at Raj Bhavan Ceremony
In a historic and solemn ceremony held at Raj Bhavan, Imphal, Governor of Manipur Shri Ajay Kumar Bhalla today felicitated gallantry award winners and presented cash awards to them and to the next of kin of battle casualties from the State. The event, the first of its kind in Manipur, was organised under the Governor’s guidance to honour the State’s brave soldiers for their exemplary service and acts of valour.
A total of 18 awardees, including battle casualties, were honoured for their exceptional bravery and selfless dedication to the nation.
The awardees include:
- Shaurya Chakra: Major Maneo Francis PF (PARA SF); Subedar P. Prabin Singha (Artillery).
- Vir Chakra: Squadron Leader Rizwan Malik (IAF); Constable (L) Deepak Chingakham (BSF).
- Sena Medal: Lt Col K. Bijayendra Sharma (Army Aviation Squadron UH); Lt Col Mutum Ajoy Meitei (Ladakh Scouts); Maj S. Maningba Rangnamei (Bihar Regiment); Maj Sougrakpam Rishikesh Singh (Engineers); Lt Col Kh. Shem SM (JAT); Maj Lalngaisang Vaiphei (ECIB); Maj Sushrujen Pangeijam (Assam Rifles); Maj Irengbam Vishal (JAK RIF); Hav Prakash Chhetri (PARA SF); Naik L. Machinmi (PARA SF).
- Battle Casualty: Maj (L) M. Pritam Singh (5 Mahar – Borders); CFN (L) Wakambam Peter Singh (EME).
- Vishisht Seva Medal: Lt Col Lemjoy Chara (Army Medical Corps).
- Mention in Despatches: Naik M. Rangayung (PARA SF).





Addressing the gathering, the Governor paid heartfelt tributes to the indomitable spirit of Manipur’s soldiers who have served the nation with honour and courage. He said that the soil of Manipur has produced countless brave hearts who have upheld the Tricolour with pride — from the frozen heights of Siachen to the ridges of Kargil, from counter-insurgency operations in the Northeast to peacekeeping missions abroad.
Governor Bhalla noted that recent successful missions, including Operation Sindoor, reflect India’s growing defence strength and strategic resolve. He reiterated that while India seeks peace, it remains unwavering in its commitment to defend its borders with courage and determination.
Reflecting on India’s proud military legacy, the Governor said stories of courage and sacrifice across generations serve as enduring reminders of the spirit that safeguards the nation’s freedom. He extended deep gratitude to the families of martyred soldiers, acknowledging their strength, patience, and silent sacrifices.
The Governor congratulated all gallantry awardees and paid tribute to the martyrs, stating that their legacy continues to inspire every Indian to uphold the nation’s values of courage, service, and sacrifice.
