Tobacco-Free Youth Campaign 3.0 Launched in Pherzawl
Students, teachers, and police join hands for a tobacco-free community
The District Health Society (DHS), Pherzawl, launched the Tobacco-Free Youth Campaign 3.0 under the Sardar@150 initiative on Friday, October 31, 2025, with the aim of raising awareness about the harmful effects of tobacco among students and the wider community.
The campaign was inaugurated at Parbung, with the Chairman of the Village Authority attending as Chief Guest, the ASI of Parbung Police Station as Guest of Honour, and the Headmaster of the host school serving as Functional President.

Dr. Hmanglamkhup Kom, Chief Medical Officer (CMO) of Pherzawl, delivered the keynote address, urging students and teachers to lead the movement toward a tobacco-free lifestyle. He also encouraged schools to adopt the Tobacco-Free Educational Institution (ToFEI) model and called on village leaders to work towards declaring their villages tobacco-free zones.
As part of the campaign, DHS distributed wall posters and educational materials on ToFEI, COTPA-2003, PECA-2019, and other anti-tobacco laws and messages. Students and teachers took a collective pledge to abstain from tobacco use and support anti-tobacco initiatives.

The event also featured a student rally against tobacco use, followed by an enforcement drive with police personnel to remove tobacco products being sold within 100 yards of the school premises.
