MSCW Holds Awareness Programme on Workplace Sexual Harassment in Pherzaw

The Manipur State Commission for Women (MSCW), in collaboration with the District Administration, Pherzawl, organised a one-day orientation and capacity-building programme on the “Sexual Harassment of Women at Workplace (Prevention, Prohibition and Redressal) Act, 2013” at the DC Conference Hall on Wednesday.

MSCW Chairperson Smt. Thumlip Tiningpham Monsang, while addressing the gathering, said this was the Commission’s first visit to Pherzawl and part of its initiative to reach all districts of Manipur. She urged all offices in the district to form Internal Complaints Committees (ICC) as mandated by the Act and to display awareness posters at workplaces to ensure a safe and respectful working environment for women. She further stressed that ensuring women’s safety at workplaces is both a legal obligation and a moral duty.

MSCW Member Smt. SK. Sophia Moyon welcomed the participants and expressed confidence that the programme would enhance awareness and accountability among district officers and other stakeholders.

During the technical session, the Chairperson underscored that workplace sexual harassment undermines women’s dignity and safety, calling for strict implementation of preventive and redressal mechanisms across government and private institutions.

The programme was attended by MSCW Member Smt. T. Chuongsin Koireng, district-level officers, police officials, representatives from the One Stop Centre including Esther Sanate, and members of the Hmar Women Association.

The awareness initiative aimed to promote accountability, gender equality, and stronger mechanisms for prevention and redressal of workplace sexual harassment.
