65,000 Still Homeless: Bimol Akoijam Urges Lok Sabha to Prioritize Manipur Discussion
‘Give 3–5 Hours for Manipur’: Congress MP Bimol Akoijam Slams Parliament Silence
Inner Manipur Congress MP Angomcha Bimol Akoijam on Monday criticised the lack of parliamentary attention to what he described as the country’s “real issues.” Speaking during a Lok Sabha discussion on Vande Mataram, he reiterated that several pressing concerns are being overlooked.
Akoijam pointed out that his repeated requests for “at least a three to five hour discussion on Manipur” have gone unheard, adding that the ongoing debate was less about the national song and more about the BJP’s political interests in West Bengal.
Highlighting the gravity of the situation in his home state, he remarked, “Unemployment, pollution, the Manipur crisis—the fact that you still have 65,000 people homeless in Manipur due to this crisis which was caused by the failure of the government to impose the Constitutional order in that state… we don’t discuss…” He added that the true essence of honouring Vande Mataram lies in the duty “to uphold what we have promised to ourselves in our Constitution.”
