Jiribam Launches 7-Day Scientific Beekeeping Training Programme

The Department of Horticulture & Soil Conservation, Jiribam, in collaboration with the Manipur Beekeeping and Honey Mission (MBHM) and sponsored by the National Bee Board (NBB), has launched a 7-day training programme on Scientific Beekeeping at the Training Hall of the Cashewnut Development Officer, Jiribam.

Deputy Commissioner Krishna Kumar, IAS, attended the inaugural session as Chief Guest. Additional Deputy Commissioner Th. Manoranjan Singh, MCS, served as Guest of Honour, while Cashewnut Development Officer Yambem Pradeep Singh presided. Sub-Divisional Agriculture Officer Mk. Naeem Ahamed Shah was the Special Guest.

Speaking at the event, DC Krishna Kumar underscored the economic potential of beekeeping in boosting rural livelihood and maintaining ecological balance. He urged participants to adopt scientific methods to enhance productivity and support biodiversity.

The week-long programme includes both classroom sessions and hands-on demonstrations. Key topics covered are honeybee species and behaviour, apiary site selection, seasonal colony management, and market opportunities. Thirty participants from various villages and localities are taking part, gaining practical exposure to hive handling, colony division, feeding, and honey extraction.

Cashewnut Development Officer Pradeep Singh assured that technical support and follow-up guidance will be extended to those interested in establishing apiary units. Participants expressed gratitude for the initiative
