Manipur Clinches Silver in Taekwondo, Bronze in Lawn Bowls at 38th National Games
Manipur added to its medal tally at the 38th National Games with a silver in Taekwondo and a bronze in Lawn Bowls on the 12th day of the competition held at Milam Hall, Halwani, Uttarakhand.
In Taekwondo, the state’s women’s Poomsae team, comprising Soraisam Lamnganbi Chanu, Umelly Mangsatabam, and Irom Bijaya Devi, secured a silver medal. This marks Manipur’s second medal in Taekwondo after Hafija Khatun clinched bronze in the U-57kg category on the opening day.
With these latest achievements, Manipur’s medal tally now stands at 38, including 12 gold, 12 silver, and 14 bronze.
Lawn Bowls: Bronze for Men’s Team
Manipur’s Four Men’s Lawn Bowling team, which reached the semi-finals after defeating Delhi and Bihar, settled for a bronze in today’s competition at the Hockey Practice Ground, MPSC, Dehradun. The team included K Hemandro Singh, Md Aftab Ahmad Khan, M Mangalleiba, and Y Tomthin. In the previous National Games in Goa, Pravesh Kumar Salam and Md Aftab Ahmad Khan won bronze in the Men’s Pairs category.
Hockey: Manipur Women Bounce Back with a WinÂ
After suffering a heavy loss to Jharkhand, the Manipur women’s hockey team made a strong comeback by defeating Uttarakhand 5-2 at the Vandhana Kataria Hockey Stadium in Haridwar.
Bramhacharimayum Sarita Devi scored an equalizer in the 3rd minute, followed by a goal from Suman Devi Thoudam in the 24th minute. Lanchenbi Khundrakpam added two consecutive goals before Thoudam Nirupama sealed the win with a final goal in the 51st minute.
Earlier, on February 5, Manipur and Mizoram played to a 2-2 draw in their opening match at the same venue.
Gymnastics: Manipur Gymnasts Progress to Finals
Ten gymnasts from Manipur, accompanied by three officials, arrived in Dehradun on Friday to compete in five gymnastics events—Men’s Artistic Gymnastics (MAG), Women’s Artistic Gymnastics (WAG), Men’s and Women’s Aerobic Gymnastics Individual, Mixed Pairs, and Gymnastics Trio.
The men’s team features S Ruban Meitei, O Umajit Singh, and M Romesh Singh, while the women’s team includes O Bandana Devi, Ariha Pangambam, H Jesika Devi, Leishilembi Ch, Anjori P, Maliyani K, and RK Thoithoilembi.
According to Gymnastics Coach Ranjan Yumnam, the aerobic gymnastics Mixed Pairs, Trio, and Gymnastics Group events have qualified for the finals, while individual competitions for men and women will be held on February 9.
Manipur continues its impressive performance at the National Games, striving for more medals in the upcoming events.
