SANGAI RUN-2025 FLAGGED OFF WITH 1,500 ATHLETES AHEAD OF SANGAI FESTIVAL
The Department of Youth Affairs & Sports (YAS), in collaboration with the Department of Tourism, Government of Manipur, today organised the Sangai Run-2025 as a curtain-raiser to the upcoming Manipur Sangai Festival 2025.
Shri N. Ashok Kumar, IAS, Commissioner (Home and Finance), flagged off the run from Khuman Lampak Sports Complex, Imphal. About 1,500 athletes took part in the event, which featured three categories: a 5 km Fun Run, a 10 km Fitness Run, and a 25 km Open & Veteran competition.




The event was graced by senior government officials including Shri Shailesh Kumar Chourasia, Commissioner (Power); Shri Hungyo Worshang, Secretary (Tourism & IPR); Shri Naorem Praveen Singh, Secretary (YAS); Shri Lourembam Bikram, Director (Tourism); Shri M. Pradip Singh, DIG; Dr. Mayengbam Veto Singh, Director (YAS); and Shri L. Nabachandra Singh, Director (Fire Services).
Several celebrated sportspersons of Manipur were also present, including Padma Shri awardees N. Kunjarani Devi (Weightlifting) and O. Bembem Devi (Football); Arjuna Awardees L. Sarita (Boxing) and Chinglensana Kangujam (Hockey Olympian); Olympian Ng. Sonia (Weightlifting); and Dhyan Chand Awardee L. Anita Chanu (Weightlifting).





Athletes who completed the run were felicitated, and cash prizes and medals were awarded to the top finishers. Medals were also distributed to all participants.
The Sangai Run seeks to promote fitness, enthusiasm, and community participation in the lead-up to the Manipur Sangai Festival, which is returning after a two-year hiatus.
