COTU Suspends 24-Hour Total Shutdown on AH-2 and NH-37
The Committee on Tribal Unity (COTU), Sadar Hills, has announced the suspension of the 24-hour total shutdown imposed along AH-2 and NH-37, effective immediately.
In a press communiqué issued on January 28, 2026, COTU expressed gratitude to the general public, church leaders, and civil society organizations for supporting the shutdown, which was enforced from midnight of January 27 in protest against the government’s alleged failure to apprehend the perpetrators linked to the ZUF-S Kamson group, accused of setting fire to K. Songlung Village, Part II, on Republic Day.
Following extensive discussions, the Committee resolved to reconsider the shutdown. It also deliberated on a joint declaration made by the United Naga Council (UNC) and Kuki Inpi Manipur (KIM) at Kangpokpi on January 27, aimed at promoting amicable dialogue and strengthening cordial relations between the two tribal communities.
Taking into account positive assurances from the concerned authorities, COTU unanimously decided to suspend the total shutdown along the highways with immediate effect.
