Cease Work Strike Suspended from July 22; Employees to Resume Duties

The joint cease work strike launched by four major State Government employees’ organisations has been temporarily suspended with effect from July 22, 2026, following a joint meeting held on July 21.

The strike, which began on July 1, was spearheaded by the Manipur Government Services Federation (MGSF), Manipur Secretariat Services Association (MSSA), Manipur State Pensioners Union (MSPU), and Manipur Secretariat Drivers Association (MSDSA). The organisations stated that the agitation had entered its 20th day on July 21.

In a joint press release, the organisations expressed disappointment over the State Government’s response, stating that their pending demands remain unresolved despite the prolonged agitation. While acknowledging the benefits already extended by the Government, they said the response to the employees’ legitimate grievances was “far from satisfactory.”

The employee bodies said they carefully reviewed the situation during their meeting and took into account the inconvenience caused to the general public as well as the hardship faced by the striking employees. Considering these factors, they decided to temporarily suspend the cease work strike.

All constituent organisations have been requested to facilitate the return to normal functioning in government offices, while members have been directed to resume their respective duties.

The organisations also expressed regret that they were unable to convince the Government to fulfil the rightful and legitimate demands of employees at this stage. They thanked employees, affiliated organisations, and the general public for their unwavering support, solidarity, and cooperation throughout the course of the strike.
