MP Sanajaoba Urges Strong Measures Against Militants, Calls for Swift Completion of Jiribam-Imphal Railway Line
Rajya Sabha MP Maharaja Sanajaoba Leishemba has urged the Central Government to take firm action against armed groups threatening peace in Manipur. He also called for the speedy completion of the Jiribam-Imphal Railway Line by 2025 to address the state’s ongoing connectivity issues.
During his speech in the Rajya Sabha, the MP highlighted the critical challenges faced by the people of Manipur, who rely heavily on National Highways and air routes for transportation. The state continues to suffer from frequent landslides, extortion, economic blockades, and threats from armed groups, making road travel dangerous. At the same time, soaring airfare costs have become a heavy financial burden for the population.
“Instead of doing Impeachment Policy and before it is too late, the Government of India, with an iron hand, should act upon these Foreign Narco – Terrorists or Separatists to restore Normalcy in the state as well as along the NHs and complete the Jiribam – Imphal Railway Line Project positively by 2025 or at the earliest,” the MP stated during his speech in the Rajya Sabha.
He pointed out the struggles faced by nearly 20 lakh people from the valley who are unable to travel safely due to the insecure conditions on highways and the high cost of air travel, which has also led to a surge in the prices of food grains and essential commodities.
“Nearly 20 lakh people from the valley are struggling to travel due to unsafe highways and unaffordable flight tickets. Meanwhile, prices of food grains and other essential commodities are reaching record highs,” he pointed out.
Despite the efforts of both the State and Central Governments, incidents of violence along the highways continue. The MP paid tribute to security personnel who have lost their lives while protecting civilians from these threats.
“Many brave jawans have become martyrs while protecting civilians. These groups are waging war against the nation with foreign support,” he added.
Emphasizing the importance of the Jiribam-Imphal Railway Line, the MP described it as the only sustainable solution to Manipur’s connectivity crisis. He urged the government to ensure its timely completion.
“Railway is the only alternative to ease transportation issues and stabilise prices,” he said, urging the government to ensure its completion at the earliest.
