Mob Destroys Property in Khangabok Over Land Dispute; Police Intervene
Thoubal, April 21:
Tension flared in Khangabok Arongthong Makhong, Thoubal District, on Sunday morning when a mob allegedly vandalized the house, shop, and foundation pillar of one Waikhom Somen, also known as Tayai, in connection with a land dispute.
The incident occurred around 10:05 AM, prompting immediate police intervention. Security personnel deployed to the area used tear gas shells to disperse the agitated crowd and bring the situation under control.
Senior officials, including DIG Range II Jogeshchandra Haobijam and Thoubal SP Sivanand Surve, visited the site to take stock of the damages and ensure law and order.
Meanwhile, both conflicting parties are currently engaged in a dialogue at the office of the Deputy Commissioner of Thoubal in a bid to resolve the matter peacefully.
Police are continuing to monitor the situation closely to prevent further escalation.
