Security Forces Conduct Extensive Operations Across Manipur; Huge Cache of Arms and Ammunition Seized
Imphal, May 6:
Security forces carried out intensive search operations and area domination in the vulnerable and fringe areas of both hill and valley districts of Manipur to maintain peace and prevent insurgent activities. The operations were conducted as part of the ongoing efforts to enhance security across the state.
As part of the security efforts, movement of 250 and 227 vehicles carrying essential items along National Highways 2 and 37, respectively, was successfully ensured with strict security arrangements, including convoys along sensitive stretches.
To tighten security, a total of 110 Nakas and checkpoints were established in various districts. Police reported that no individual was detained during these checks.
In a major breakthrough, security personnel recovered a significant cache of arms and ammunition from two separate locations.
From Phonsenphai Gap near Kwakta Ward No. 8 under Phougakchao Ikhai Police Station in Bishnupur District, the following items were seized:
- One .303 Rifle with magazine
- One .22 Semi-Automatic Rifle with magazine
- One .303 Bolt Action Rifle without magazine
- Two 12 Bore Single Barrel Guns
- Two 9mm Pistols with magazines
- Ten rounds of 7.62 mm AK ammunition
- Three rounds of 7.62 mm SLR ammunition
- One 5.56 mm live round
- Five BP Plate sets, five BP jackets, and three BP helmets
In another operation at Heibonglok Hill under Sekmai Police Station in Imphal West District, security forces recovered:
- One AK Rifle with magazine
- One modified .303 Rifle without magazine
- One Pistol with magazine
- One No. 36 HE Hand Grenade without detonator
- One defective No. 36 HE Hand Grenade wrapped in black cello tape
- One Chinese Hand Grenade
- One 2-inch Mortar HE MK 1 Bomb
- Three green BP vests
- Six plates suspected to be used as body armor (two plastic and four iron)
Authorities have reiterated their commitment to ensuring public safety and maintaining law and order in the state through continuous vigilance and proactive operations.
