One-Day Awareness Programme on Women’s Reproductive Health and Rights Held in Churachandpur
Churachandpur | May 16, 2025 — A one-day awareness programme on “Women’s Sexual Reproductive Health & Rights” was successfully conducted today at the Zeihkuluang Community Hall, Loktak Project area in Churachandpur district. The event was jointly organized by the Rongmei Naga Luh Phwam, Manipur-Ntayphay Luangrian (RNLPM-NTL), and the Manipur State Commission for Women (MSCW), with MSCW also acting as the sponsor.
The event was graced by notable dignitaries including Thumlip Tiningpham Monsang, Chairperson of MSCW; MSCW Members T. Chuongsin Koireng and Sk. Sophia Moyon; Dr. Tr. Kom, Retired Director of MACS; and Gaidimmeilu Golmei, President of RNLPM-NTL. Technical sessions were led by Advocate Jacky Lucy, Dr. Changmei S. Ningshen, and Nepolean Shaiza, a District Resource Person under the PMFME scheme.
Addressing the participants, MSCW member T. Chuongsin Koireng emphasized that reproductive rights are fundamental human rights, essential for ensuring women’s autonomy, dignity, and well-being. She encouraged women to approach the Commission and utilize available support services without fear or hesitation.
Dr. Tr. Kom highlighted societal misconceptions surrounding infertility, stressing that reproductive health is a shared responsibility. He underscored the importance of proper nutrition, menstrual hygiene, and regular medical checkups for both men and women.
Chairperson Thumlip Tiningpham Monsang urged women to prioritize their own well-being and take full advantage of government welfare schemes and support centres like the Women’s Helpline, One-Stop Centre, and Shakti Sadan.
In the legal session, Advocate Jacky Lucy elaborated on women’s constitutional rights and legal protections under acts such as POCSO, the Pre-Conception and Pre-Natal Diagnostic Techniques Act, and the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023.
Dr. Changmei S. Ningshen emphasized balanced nutrition and encouraged local, healthy diets over processed foods. Meanwhile, Nepolean Shaiza informed attendees about government schemes including PM Vishwakarma, KCC, and initiatives in agriculture and allied sectors, promoting the formation of SHGs and FPOs.
Around 120 women from Aimol, Chiru, Kom, and Rongmei communities participated in the programme. Sanitary pads and seeds for kitchen gardening were distributed to promote hygiene and self-sufficiency.
The event marked a significant step in spreading awareness and empowering women in the region through knowledge, healthcare, and social support.
