Team Prithviraj Issues Clarification Over Allegations Related to Jal Jeevan Mission

In response to recent allegations made by Md. Sangomsumbam Anwar Ali, Team Prithviraj has released an official clarification strongly refuting the claims linking former MLA M. Prithviraj Singh to alleged irregularities under the Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM).

The allegations surfaced during a press conference held on July 16, 2025, at the residence of the sitting MLA, Shri Thongam Shanti Singh, at Moirang Philem Leikai. The conference, organized by the National People’s Party (NPP), Moirang Block, was reportedly convened to discuss serious concerns raised by Hon’ble Lok Sabha MP Shri Angomcha Bimol Akoijam regarding the alleged manipulation of public water connection data submitted by the Public Health Engineering Department (PHED).

The MP alleged that fraudulent household water connections were listed on the official website of the Ministry in areas such as Moirang Tronglaobi and Kwakta, without actual field implementation. He also highlighted concerns over the possible misrepresentation of Swachh Bharat Mission (SBM) achievements as those of the Jal Jeevan Mission.

During the press meet, Md. Sangomsumbam Anwar Ali, identified as an Executive Member of the NPP’s Political Affairs Committee, Moirang Block, reportedly claimed that these irregularities occurred during the tenure of former MLA M. Prithviraj Singh (2008–2016).

In a statement issued by N. Sharat Singh, Convenor of Team Prithviraj, the allegation has been denounced as “baseless and defamatory.” The statement emphasizes that Shri M. Prithviraj Singh’s term ended in 2016, whereas the Jal Jeevan Mission was launched on August 15, 2019—well after his tenure.

“It is factually impossible for Shri M. Prithviraj Singh to be linked with any implementation of JJM,” the clarification read. “The works under JJM could not have been carried out or manipulated during his term as the scheme did not exist at that time.”

Team Prithviraj also condemned the widespread circulation of the allegation through social media platforms and local media, stating it has caused “unjust harm” to the former legislator’s reputation. The statement called upon Md. Anwar to issue a public apology for the “false and malicious” statements. Failing which, it warned that legal recourse would be pursued to defend and restore the dignity of Shri M. Prithviraj Singh.
