CAU Imphal Organises Awareness Programme on Pig Disease Outbreak in Manipur

Imphal, November 10: The Central Agricultural University (CAU), Imphal, conducted an Awareness-cum-Interaction Programme with farmers of Manipur to discuss the recent mass death of pigs reported from various districts across the state.

The programme was graced by Dr. L.M. Garnayak, Director of Research, CAU Imphal, and attended by Dr. H. Chaoba Singh, OSD (Finance), CAU Imphal; Prof. Y. Damodar Singh, Head, Department of Animal Science, College of Agriculture, Iroisemba; Dr. M. Norjit Singh, Assistant Professor (SS), Department of Animal Science, College of Agriculture, Iroisemba; Dr. Bhavana Soso, Medical Officer; and Dr. Indira Thounaojam, Information & Publicity Officer, CAU Imphal.

The awareness initiative, held under the guidance of Hon’ble Vice Chancellor Dr. Anupam Mishra, aimed to sensitise farmers about the suspected outbreak of African Swine Fever (ASF) in the state. Experts informed that samples have been sent to Guwahati for laboratory confirmation. They discussed the epidemiology, clinical signs, and preventive measures against the disease, stressing on the need for strict biosecurity practices as no vaccine exists for ASF.

The programme concluded with an interactive session, allowing farmers to raise their concerns and seek expert guidance on effective ASF control and prevention strategies.
