16 Assam Rifles Seizes 10,920 Kg of Betel Nuts in Senapati

A joint team of 16 Assam Rifles, Maram, and the Forest Department seized two Tata 4×4 trucks carrying 10,920 kg of betel nuts (supari) without valid documents on Thursday.

The confiscated items were handed over to the Maram Beat Office under Mao Range. Officials filed two Preliminary Offence Reports (PORs) as per the applicable legal provisions.

According to the department, this marks the first major covert operation conducted jointly by Assam Rifles and Forest officials. An investigation is underway, and the seized consignment will be auctioned soon.

Authorities said the action should serve as a strong deterrent against illegal transportation of forest produce and urged the public to report similar activities to the concerned departments.
